Prospects of Halal Meat Exportation: Empirical Insights from Nigeria
Keywords:
Export potential, Kano Abattoir, Structural Equation Modelling, Islamic finance, Halal MeatAbstract
This study investigates the factors influencing the intention to export halal meat among butchers in the Kano Abattoir market. Specifically, it examines the impact of perceived benefits, organizational commitment, and government support on export intention. A descriptive survey research design was employed, collecting cross-sectional data from a sample of 303 butchers selected from a total population of 1,858. Data was gathered via self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with Maximum Likelihood Estimation. The findings indicate that perceived benefits and government support have a significant positive effect on the intention to export halal meat. However, organizational commitment was found to have no significant effect. The study concludes that enhancing perceived benefits and providing robust government support are crucial for promoting halal meat exports from the region. Recommendations include implementing targeted awareness campaigns, offering financial incentives and trade promotion support, and improving internal organizational practices to indirectly foster a more export-oriented mindset.
